Harbour Craft is owned and managed by James Bellhouse who has lived in Chichester for over 20 years.
He began working on boats 16 years ago with his father and has used this time to develop all the skills needed to maintain and restore boats to the highest quality.
“When I started 16 years ago my father and I mainly focused on maintaining classic yachts, re-varnishing, re-painting and restoring them.
After a few years I decided to try and learn more about fibreglass and GRP and this led me away from the harbour to other Marinas to try and hone my skills. I could see that this newer build method provided a quick and easy solution to the time it took to build boats and I thought that having the knowledge to work with this product was essential.
During this time I was also lucky enough to work alongside some very talented Craftsmen who carried very specific skill sets. This has enabled me to cover a really wide range of marine repairs. One day I could be re-upholstering an interior and the next I might be laying a teak deck.
After working with other firms, I decided it was time to try and build a company that I could consider a legacy.
I want to provide a new experience for boat owners that allows them to really become part of the care and maintenance schedule for their boat and I’m going to do this by taking the time to walk them around each and every job so they can trust me to care for their boat the way they would.”
Amongst other projects Harbour Craft are nearing the finish of a total restoration on a classic offshore racing boat. The owner of the boat has a great hands on approach which means the restoration has been a real learning experience for him.
It is essential that the owners really get to know their boats. This hopefully means they can keep them for longer than has been common in recent times.
Chichester Harbour is still one of the most beautiful places to be and if you own a boat, you can have a different view of that beauty.

In todays market place the clients we work with require a high level of bespoke options aboard their yachts whether they’re new, used, sail or power Harbour Craft have always come to aide. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend their services to any boat owner or trade customer.
I used the services of Harbour Craft for a repair to my poor old rowing boat which needed some TLC, I wasn’t even sure that James would be happy with such a minor job. I was wrong. I had top class service with a smile. James arrived promptly at the agreed time, did a thorough check and repair on the boat and gave me some much needed follow up advice. I couldn’t fault the service or the price that was charged. I would definitely use them again.
